Adult Diabetes: What are the Symptoms?

Diabetes can progress without you being aware of the problem until it has become a serious illness that affects your daily life. About eight percent of people in the US are affected by adult diabetes. To prevent it becoming a debilitating condition, you should be aware of the typical warning symptoms of the disease. Treatments are available for diabetes and with awareness you can also prevent diabetes from occurring. So what are the symptoms of adult diabetes? A common symptom is fatigue. We do not mean the normal fatigue that everyone feels at the end of a hectic day. Instead, you feel fatigued with no apparent cause. What happens is that a breakdown in metabolism caused by diabetes is preventing your energy source being processed. Your body cannot process the glucose that provides energy. Unable to process the sugar, your body turns on the fat cells to use as fuel. For fat persons, this might seem like a good idea. Actually it is not as it can make you seriously weak. Weight loss is another symptom. The weight loss is unexplained as you might have not made any changes in your diet or your daily habits. What has happened is that diabetes has lowered your body's ability to process the calories you eat. Excessive thirst and urination are other diabetic symptoms. The high blood sugar levels make your kidneys hyperactive, trying to absorb all the excess sugar that reach them unprocessed. Relevant brain centers begin to receive signals from the kidneys, and responds by making you feel thirstier so that the higher quantity of water you drink can dilute the sugar levels. Increased water consumption leads to increased urge to urinate, which also helps remove the excess sugar. Slow healing of wounds can also be an adult diabetes symptom. High blood sugar levels can prevent wound-healing white blood cells from acting quickly and effectively. The decreased immune levels can also lead to other kinds of infections. Blurred vision and altered mental states are other symptoms. Body malfunctions caused by the diabetes cause these problems. You can also become easily irritated.
